ISRAEL: MIRACLE IN THE DESERT

Terence Prittie offers an economic and social appraisal of Israel that has not been matched for clarity and perspective. After a brief historical introduction, he provides an analysis of the kibbutz system and its changing place in the Israeli economy. Also lucid and convincing are the sections on the building of a new port city, the relationship of commerce to survival, and agricultural achievements. But the measure of the author's accomplishment lies in his analysis of Israel's racial troubles, her political system and the future of Arab-Jewish relations. For once --an unbiased thinker who combines the best aspects of eye-witness account and social analysis.
