THE ELVES AND THE SHOEMAKER

Despite the shoddy color processing, the familiarity of Turkle's glowing interiors and the resemblance of his double-page street scene to a commercial Christmas card, there is enough bounce in those ragged, impish little elves (shown prancing on the cover in green-and-white and red-and-white striped stocking caps) and enough warmth in the shoemaker's plain, homey workshop to give this a stitch or two of seasonal appeal.
