MR. THURTLE'S TROLLEY

A sunny fantasy, which comforts while it derides, this contributes a gentle touch to the current whimsy field...Heartbroken Mr. Thurtle thinks he has been jilted by Nettie Parks, and dashes away from his Kansas home town, swearing never to ride in automobiles again. He finds happiness as a trolley car conductor in a New York suburb, and when the trolley is put out of business, Mr. Thurtle and the conductor buy it and install it by their home. Then Mr. Thurtle discovers he has strange powers- that he can manipulate (by prayer) the trolley where he will. He and the Winches head for California, via Kansas; they pick up Netti, still unmarried, they have various mad adventures, and become national figures. But it is only when Mr. Thurtle loses his power that Nettie succumbs and marries him. ... Very special.
