MRS. EGG AND OTHER AMERICANS

Bear, while best known perhaps as a novelist, wrote some 150 short stories, most of which were published in the SEP. A few were collected during his life-time and these, reprinted in the Armed Services edition, were welcomed so eagerly that it seemed the time had come for making them available in several volumes, of which this is the first. There are 29 stories, only one of which appeared in the 1933 volume; half a dozen have never been printed. An introduction by the editor Wilson Follett, reenforces the opinion of many critics that Thomas Beer was at his greatest in this form.
