As Aylesworth has already investigated Vampires and Other Ghosts (1971) and touched on them in his Monsters from the Movies (1972) and Movie Monsters (1975), it should come as no surprise that he hasn't much to report in this skimpy mishmash of sloppy anthropology, undifferentiated folklore, cursory film history, and harum-scarum biography. (The major profile is of the Romanian Prince Vlad, ""sometimes called Draculaea,"" who was pathologically cruel--as Aylesworth makes clear in gory examples--but ""a hero too. He did defend his country many times."") At least Nancy Garden's Vampires (1973) does the same sort of thing more thoroughly and with some pretense to research.
