PEACE AND WAR: Man-Made

Tom Galt's primer of war and peace, smartly scaled to suit the study hall sensibilities of the junior high school scholar, asks direct questions (Why do nations battle against each other?) and shoots back creative answers (Because they haven't yet tapped the dynamic energies and humanitarian interests of all people everywhere; countries must learn to coexist cooperatively and thereby solve their social economic and judicial problems). The book offers a dove's eye view of such olive branch, experiments as the Achacan League of Indians pact, the League of Nations and the present day UN, especially the latter's ILO and UNESCO programs: it also includes a discussion outline and reading list for teachers and students. A stimulating, if simplistic, guide for the perplexed young.
