DRAGON STEW

Dragon Stew is an unpromising concoction that comes off. King Chubby (alas), who has alienated all the royal cooks by revising their recipes, hires as replacement a shabby young man who claims to know the most unusual recipe in the kingdom--dragon stew. Klaus also knows that the king is a would-be cook, so he lets him be. . . and they get along famously until the king's guard, bedraggled, return with a real live dragon. The dragon that's supposed to be a surprise for Klaus could be his undoing but it turns out that dragon stew is a natural for a dragon who can cook. Though the drawings are more than half the fun, the story, if not cordon bleu, does spring some surprises from the Joy of Cooking.
