by Tomie de Paola ‧ RELEASE DATE: April 15, 1981
When the terrible Cucullin comes storming in to beat up fellow giant Fin M'Coul, Fin's wife Oonash saves the day by baking iron skillets in bread loaves (""That's Fin's bread, the only kind he eats. Is it a bit tough for you?""), dressing Fin up as a baby (he is given loaves without skillets--""He seems a strong lad,"" says Cucullin), and advising ""baby"" Fin to bite off Cucullin's brass finger, the secret of his strength. It's a funny story and takes well to a picture-book telling, but it would have been more fun with wittier pictures; de Paola simply makes lunkheads of the entire cast and handles the humor with the equivalent of Oonash's iron skillets.
