TALES OF DON QUIXOTE AND HIS FRIENDS

That superbly complicated world of Cervantes has once again been transposed for younger readers in this telling of tales from Don Quixote. Unfortunately, in extracting a few humorous episodes in this manner, little of the original charm or brilliance remains. Both in terms of its somewhat gross illustrations and in the flat narrative, Sancho and his master emerge as somewhat clownish stereotypes reminiscent of a moving-picture cartoon. Amusing in spots, but on the whole a lackluster counter feit which does more harm than good to the original from which it borrows its name.
