This book evolved from eighteen months of tape-recorded interviews with eight British sex offenders and it would be primarily useful for the psychology student. The Offenders range from Russell, outwardly middle-class normal but with. ""This Other Life"" in which his ""little fault"" was molesting young girls. And there's retarded Billy, regarded by rehabilitators as ""An utterly hopeless prospect"" with a long record of minor assaults on women because ""I think it's quite a nice thing to do."" Then there's dapper Graham, a reconciled homosexual who was given a three year sentence for ""Buggery""; the agonized, articulate Nat who describes himself as ""A dirty little Irish pouf, a nasty mixed-up Catholic queer, feeling so sorry for himself he can hardly speak for crying;"" Charlie the ponce with no regrets whatsoever and mild-mannered Andrew, sentenced to life for two weeks of multiple rape during which he was labeled ""the Monster."" They are all candid about their past, their families, their crimes, and their uncertain future. Pathetic portraits.
