For those fascinated with the personality of Hitler, Ravenscroft has produced the ultimate explanation of his evil genius and ascent to power. Nothing less than Satanism -- a heady compound of astrology, alchemy, ""monstrous sexual perversions"" and demonic trances. Hitler as Charlie Manson in fact. It all began in the Vienna flophouse days when Hitler set eyes on the Spear of Longius, reputed to have pierced Christ's side. With the help of a little peyote art student Adolf reinterpreted the legend of the Holy Grail along Aryan lines. With the spear as his ""talisman of power"" the diabolical career which led to Auschwitz and the death of six million Jews was launched. Ravenscroft was vouchsafed this tale by one Walter Stein, a sometime pal and fellow occultist of the future Fuhrer in Vienna who subsequently became Churchill's wartime adviser on Hitler's mind and motives. Apart from Stein's testimony, Ravenscroft supplies no hard evidence for these fantastic charges though the book is packed with some stunning allegations: i.e., Ravenscroft claims that after World War I Hitler was hired by the Reichswehr to infiltrate the German Workers Party and in fact rose to power as its ""subordinate and representative""! To say nothing of the revelation that Dietrich Eckhart, an early party crony, just before he died initiated Hitler in ""a monstrous sadistic magic ritual similar to the rituals performed by Landulf II. . . in the ninth century."" It's doubtful whether serious historians will pay too much attention to these frothings laced with Nietzsche, Wagner and Schopenhauer but for sheer sensationalism they can't be beat. Ravenscroft appends Hitler's birth chart and the astrological diagnosis confirms all those latent perversions.
