DRAGON FRANZ

Poor Franz is the only dragon in his class who can't spit fire, and there is some humor in the absurd remedies--eating lots of matches for breakfast, gargling with kerosene--that he fits into a recognizable domestic routine. But the conclusion is both predictable in outline and inane in its particulars: Franz discovers that he can turn blue--or striped or gold-specked or checkered--at will, and he uses his unique gift to win the school talent show prize. A fizzle.
