FAVORITE SERMONS OF JOHN A. BROADUS

During the last half of the nineteenth century Dr. John A. Broadus was known as one of the pulpit giants of this country, and people heard him eagerly and gladly because of his clear, simple and forceful sermons. But since most of his preaching was ex-tempore, though not without thorough and careful preparation, only one brief volume of his sermons was published during his ministry. However, the sermon materials left by Dr. Broadus have been made available to the Reverend Dr. V. L. Stanfield, of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and twelve sermons and as many sermon briefs comprise this most interesting volume which will make clear to modern readers the reason for the acclaim heaped upon Dr. Broadus during his lifetime. Ministerial students and Protestant preachers of all denominations will profit greatly from learning how a pulpit-master practiced what he taught, for he spent most of his life teaching homiletics at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary at Louisville, Kentucky.
