The mammoth pumpkin that Millie and Bill Brown had grown from seed they'd planted and tended was far from a pedestrian achievement. Their intention of entering it for exhibition in the contest at the County Fair was thwarted by a disaster in which the pumpkin as cracked. And so they went in for a family project, a pumpkin pie, and- entering it hot from the oven, they won an uncontested victory.
