With assorted prefaces and introductions (two by doctors; one by Patricia Neal); and appendices (speeches by Patricia Neal) most of which add up to or come down to testimonials, this short book is basically a chapter-and-lesson account of the methods Valerie Eaton Griffith developed and used simultaneously with Patricia Neal and co-sufferer Alan Moorehead. Always varying the approach and subject (the concentration span of the aphasic is short--the capacity for boredom large) she worked out various games, puzzles, etc. which would stimulate interest in and reactivate the use of words--the primary loss. Thus this is more limited essentially than the Samos' book on The Stroke Patient (1969, p. 983) but it serves a very real purpose for members of the family and friends who want to help their own personal patient.
