FIRECREST

At the sudden death of Henry Dilling, Johnny Grimster (both men work for one of those nameless, ruthless organizations called The Department) attempts to protect the young woman to whom Dilling had left his papers and his money, remembering only too well how another girl had died and knowing even better that he's the next to go. Canning is one of the lucky (or harder working) few who manages to tell a different story each time--the tone is gentle, somber but determined--and he appears here at his hard-to-beat best.
