When the old soldier Janosh tells about the time he defeated the great Napoleon's army single-handed, a listening student lets out a big sneeze (a sign in Hungary that you don't believe a story is true) you're apt to be saying gesundheit when you read this one aloud, but children will savor Napoleon's humiliation and his admiration for Janosh, laugh knowingly at the old soldier's explanation that ""if (he) had not had such large holes in (his) pockets,"" he should still be the richest among them. Like The Three Poor Tailors, this vibrates with color, and although a little contrast would be more effective, the individual figures are irresistibly funny.
