by Victor Urquid ‧ RELEASE DATE: N/A
The author presents with welcome brevity and a talent for precise words his realistic, but nevertheless, optimistic view of Latin America's basic economic problem-- the introduction of industry in economies retarded, by their dependence on agrarian-export commodities. Expanded from a series of lectures delivered at Mexico's National College, Dr. Urquidi places his faith in the Alliance for Progress as ""the only road open to Latin America that guarantees us democracy, liberty, and personal dignity."" Dr. Urquidi is a consultant to Mexico's Ministry of Finance and has held posts with the U.N. World Bank. Without funds, and any flow of capital risks expropriation by any regime likely to imitate Castro, he believes that economic anemia will persist in these countries depending on raw materials traded in a changeable world market. In the undeniably explesive situations south of our borders, he still finds ""more positive than negative factors"" to consider and discuss.
