A junior Scott Fitzgerald love story has many of the ingredients youth demands in their Hollywood dramas, but which we'd like to keep out of the books we give them. This is- alas-a low for Viola Rowe. She had one book which handled a thorny problem with discrimination and maturity- Girl in a Hurry (1956); in A Way With Boys she showed a tendency to pile success on success, with small hindrance (1957); and now in Free for All the Golden Jazz era of bootleggers, speakeasies, slackened morals and shingled heads combine in a contrived drama of young romance, not at its best.
