by Virginia H. Ellison ‧ RELEASE DATE: Sept. 19, 1969
Recipes using honey appear in this book only a little less often than Pooh eats or talks about it,"" Mrs. Ellison notes; since it's almost the only edible or potable that Pooh mentions precisely, most of the content is a product of the author's imagination. Sometimes the spirit of Pooh is well-served -""Making Butter"" is fun and not at all arduous; ""Marmalade on a Honeycomb,"" one of Pooh's own ""simple meals,"" ends with a reminder not to swallow the beeswax. Others are recipes for standard dishes (a painstaking method of making scrambled eggs, a simple but not unlikely to succeed, method of making popovers) or adaptations supposingly titled (""Honey Hot Chocolate for a Very Blusterous Day Outside, ""Hipy Papy Bthuthdth Thuthda Bthuthdy Cake"" -- a 1,2,3,4 cake). Many, however, from Minted Honey Banana Bread to Deviled Eggs to Quick Corn and Shrimp Chowder; lack the flavor of the book or the appeal of almost-improvisation or both (can you imagine opening cans at Pooh Comer?) and there's just no excuse for ""Christmas Specialities."" Unless of course you're, so charmed by the very notion of a Pooh Cook Book that the marginal drawings and quotes take precedence over the nature of the recipes.
