If Lee could have one wish granted in all the world, it would be to ride to Atlanta in the cab of the big steam engine which whistled through the Valley every day. But even if he saved every penny, it would take forever for a 10-year-old Negro boy to earn enough for that train fare. One terrible night there was a washout on the Chinquapin Hill bank, and Lee was horrified to see a boulder lodged in the middle of the tracks; it would mean sure disaster for his beloved ""1326"". Using a long-treasured railroad flare, Lee managed to warn the engineer in time, was later granted one year free passage on any train of the Southern Line, in appreciation of his courage. A slight story, laced with nostalgia for an earlier, unsophisticated way of life in the drowsy Georgia hills.
