Broken windows, creaky fences, dragons-- a haunted house arouses the curiosity of four boys after one notices activity about the deserted place. One conjures up a giant, another a dragon, a third thinks the noise is only a family of mice. They climb the hill and take turns peering over a fence. A little boy comes out and informs them that he lives in the house now. He says he has just built the long, painted, cloth tragon which is lying in his yard, and invites the lads to celebrate Chinese New Year with him. They accept and seem to enjoy tromping about with the dragon on their heads. In the illustrations, the boys are wire-like and characterless, their faces flat and white. Each picture sprawls across a page, covering almost all available space. The author and artist have not captured the spontaneity evident in the antics of small boys.
