The instruments are realistically portrayed; the engaging beasts are remarkably deft satires of their human counterparts, while the pairings of animal and instrument are visually delightful and lend themselves to some nifty wordplay. Moreover, the two talented Canadians responsible for this unusual group clearly know their music; they slip in discreet, instructive captions while wonderfully conveying the orderly disorder of the process of tuning up. An entertaining picture book that is also an unusual, good-humored introduction to the orchestra.
