SEMMES OF THE ALABAMA

Our specialist in sea shelf books writes of this:- ""The names of confederate noval officers do not come readily to mind, but that of Raphael Semmes is cloaked with the romance of a Count Von Luckner, and is remembered when that of the Union officer who terminated his career is forgotten. Much has been written of the part of the Alabama played for the Confederacy, but this permits a full length portrait of her commander. There is much similarity between Semmes and Von Luckner, two men who played tag with death on the high seas. The present biography is decidely worthwhile. Plus rating for the sea shelf, for straight biography, for older boys. No sectional bias.
