Gordon Ross has not asked in Companion of Eternity. He is professor of philosophy and religion at Berea College, Kentucky, and he shows in this book just how much he is at home in the fields of science and psychology as well. His basic inquiry is -- what is man?- and nothing that vitally affects his life is omitted from the dialogue between despair and hope which Dr. Ross sets up to clarify the realities in the situation which he finds so confused, blurred, and distorted in so much of today's thinking, or what passes for it. The book is solid reading, demanding close attention, but the serious student of mankind should find much help here in providing the broadest kind of perspective for his studies, which should help him greatly in building solid foundations for his own conclusions.
