THE ART OF USEFUL WRITING

Defining ""useful writing"" as ""meeting consumer interest"", Walter Pitkin, out of broad experience, has written a book designed to discourage all but the valiant and determined writers-to-be. More power to him. He gives advice on how to use the book, and he shows how he built up his own capacity for accomplishment by following his own rules. He outlines the procedure, -- practice, drill, files, notes, and system established and sustained through the years. The book falls into three main sections, -- the mechanics of writing, the orientation or logic of writing; the psychology of writing. An excellent basic textbook for writing courses or for home study.
