It is specifically the story of how a brave woman planned so that her small son would make good and full use of the matchlock gun her forebearers had used to equal advantage in support of their liberty. The illustrations by Paul Lantz include double spreads in full color and decorative drawings and full pages in lithographic pencil. A true story, handed down in the family of descendants from the Dutch settlers in the Hudson Valley.
