THE BLACK STALLION AND THE GIRL

When Alec Ramsay, the Black Stallion's rider, hires a girl to care for the horses on his father's Hopeful Farm, trainer Henry Dailey threatens to quit. Alec argues that sexism is as bad as racism, but to Henry, Pam is not only a girl, she's one of ""those kids today"" who want pie in the sky and have no respect for ""dedication and duty."" Henry changes his mind alter Pam rides Black Stallion and wins the big race for which Alec has been disqualified, but by then Pam is ready to move on anyway. Though she accuses Alec of being more interested in the racing industry than in horses as friends, the two fall in love; however, Pam must do her thing before settling down, so she's off to Maryland, France, maybe Switzerland and Vienna, and finally Ireland for the hunts and steeplechases. Unbelievably hackneyed discussions, insipid love interest, and routine racing episodes disqualify the story.
