Another adventure in the already widely read lives of Alex, his trainer Henry and the tempestuous Arabian race horse, the Black, this time more about Alex than the horse. When Alex decides to take the Black on a much needed vacation to California, the stallion gets cramps aboard their small plane and forces a crash. Miraculously the Black is uninjured and is found by some breeders. But Alex is knocked into amnesia. For a summer he wanders through Arizona, finds work with horses, and is unjustly accused of a theft before he is eventually reunited with the Black and with his own senses.
