THE QUEEN WHO LONGED FOR SNOW

A news correspondent with a solid reputation for European reporting retells an old Portuguese legend with simple charm. In the long ago, a princess from the Land of Snow came to Lisbon as the King's bride. Happy except that she missed snow, the King repaired the situation by planting Almond trees whose white blossoms bloomed in snowy profusion. Through Baryl Bailey Jones' colorful pictures, the Queen, looking like Snow White, emerges quite beautifully. Noteworthy.
