THE STORY OF THE CHURCH

One of our more distinguished clergymen and a writer of unusual skill has prepared this history of the Church in story form. It is evidently designed for use by older children and young people, but it is such a readable volume that, once begun, many an adult will find difficulty in putting it down. Dr. Bowie begins his story with the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus, and then takes the reader through the experiences and accomplishments of the disciples, the work of Paul, the persecution of the Christians under the Roman Emperors, the recognition of Christianity by Constantine, the Dark Ages, the Crusades, the Middle Ages, the Reformation and subsequent developments in various countries. It is comprehensive, accurate and yet concise. There is absolutely no denominational slant to the book; its presuppositions are those of a liberal Protestantism.
