THE RAINBOW DICTIONARY

We want to report this more fully nearer publication date (August) but a peek at a dummy indicates an important item for your summer budget. There are some 2,300 entries -- 1000 gay, colored illustrations -- 432 pages, with good type, open layout, emphasis on readability. There are three times the number of words as compared with The Golden Dictionary. The emphasis is on words in use, which varies from the ordinary entry system. This book will help children, even beginning readers, find the very part of speech on which they need information (as verb in common tense, past or present). Illustrations, a simple explanation, the use in a sentence, all help clarify the definitions. We didn't like the pictures as well, perhaps, as Miss Elliott's in The Golden Dictionary, but they are gay and childlike and modern. In the finished book, the reproduction may be better than in these sample pages. Don't miss it.
