by Will Durant ‧ RELEASE DATE: Oct. 23, 1950
Fourth installment of the monumental history of civilization, the earlier ones being and and Christ. The present volume covers the period from 125 to 100 -- its aim ""to give as full and fair an account of medieval civilization as space and prejudice permit"". Actually, Durant covers the economic, political, legal, military, moral, social, religious, educational, scientific, philosophic, and artistic aspects of four distinct civilizations, -- Byzantine, Islamic, Judaic and West European. Religionists will be particularly interested in his treatment of the major religious faiths and will find him fair in his appraisal of the impact of these faiths on the history of mankind. Delightful reading- at no time overweighted with the sense of ponderous scholarship.
