PROPAGANDA AND THE NEWS

The story of the component parts of what we vaguely call ""the press"". First it was printing, then newspapers, then publicity promoters, reporters, syndicate feature writers -- all used to serve some political ideal. Finally, with the war, propaganda came into its own. Told in a conversational manner, interestingly written, a challenge to the power -- for good or evil -- of propaganda, ending on a note of doubt. The author believes that Truth will out -- but he can't quite prove his point. Good reading, but leaves one with a sense of incompleteness, of inadequacy. The Seldes' market.
