They're there to help out two teenage boys (scions of game-hunting stock) who get themselves cut adrift in a balloon and stranded on an arid plain and generally menaced day after day in their efforts to exterminate two man-eating lions. Gore plus stultifying stereotypes equals jungle rot (and unintentional camp).
