WAGON WHEELS

Subtitled ""A Story of the National Road"", this follows the doings of a young Vermonter, Joel Brigham, who comes to the famous road that led from Baltimore to Vandalia, to search for his long lost brother Peter who is a wagoner on it. The time is the 1830's and at the outset, Joel meets and goes along with Amos Fair, a peddler whose friendship and knowledge of the road are a help. As the two voyage Joel gets a broad view of the life of the road, decides he wants to become a wagoner too, and is able to help solve a personal problem successfully when he and Peter finally meet. Well set in history.
