Although the story of the man who invented the condensing steam engine has been told repeatedly in children's books and school texts, this biography goes into come detail about the experiments that led to the engine. These were ingenious, but together without refined equipment, and they traced the development of Watts' inventive genius. All of this can be followed with ease by beginning chemistry and physics students to their benefit. In addition, there is much information Watts' contribution in relation to the Industrial Revolution. The reception of his engine and his difficulties in finding backers graphically illustrate the temper of the times.
