A commemorative volume for last year's centennial celebration of the founding of Boys' Clubs (In Hartford, Conn.) carries a warm foreword by the Hon. Herbert Hoover who, as one of the leaders of the organization, was for many years its ""Chief"". He commends the aims and achievements of the Boys' Clubs and particularly the devotion and energy given by the author, for 18 years its president. Mr. Hall tells how he came to be interested in working for the Boys' Clubs (he was stymied by a young member on a point of order), of how the clubs are started, staffed and physically equipped; he traces the tremendous growth of the clubs in communities throughout the country so that all expansion has made this ""unique"" organization ""big league stuff""; he gives accounts of the work done by individuals in helping to promote the idea, create more clubs, raise money and establish fonds; and he constantly emphasizes the end results -- boys as assets rather than liabilities, decency rather than delinquency. A record that has an able and experienced spokesman, this should have a place in almost every community library.
