Robinson locates in their historical context the extant remains of two centuries of New England industries (from mills to mining sites), by-ways (canals, railroads, and roads), and habitats (farmhouses, schools, churches). In the concluding section sites are listed by subject and location. In the case of railroads and canals, the entire ghostly routes are given ""end to end."" Exemplary.
