You shall get me a Johnny-cake; quickly to make it./ In one minute mix and in two minutes bake it."" So Sarah's grandmother orders from her bed, sending the little girl on one of those snowballing chases -- from closet to miller to cornfield to farmer to plowman -- such as Berson handled more smartly in The Boy, The Baker, The Miller and More (KR, p. 103, J-67). Wiesner illustrates the jogtrotting rhyme, first published in the 1830's, in lifeless three color pictures that combine the costumes and illustration conventions of the period with a standardized modern cartoon style.
