American diplomacy and foreign aid in southeast Asia present a terrifying picture of greed, malpractice, evasion and falsification as revealed by Lederer. Perhaps one-sided in selection and presentation of material, this nonetheless provides an important inside picture, which the enthusiastic reception of the concept of the new Peace Corps makes of particular significance today.
