by William Jr. Baumer ‧ RELEASE DATE: N/A
Vignettes of seven West Pointers who won fame in Civil Life, including Du Pont, Whistler and Jefferson Davis. A sincere, unpretentious work, founded on careful research, but flat in effect. It falls down not only in showing the influence of West Point on the characters and destinies of strong diversified characters, but in failing to make the individuals come alive. Reads like a first book, and while it shows an aptitude for historical research and factual writing, there is also evident a lack of skill in assembling and vivifying the material.
