MAMA I LOVE YOU

The Saroyan simplicity is sounded by nine year old Twinkle as she tells the story of Mama Girl and herself in New York, when Mama Girl has left California on a momentary whim to look for a part in a real play. Papa Boy and her brother, Peter, are in Paris, for Papa Boy and Mama Girl have been divorced for three years; Twinkle turns out to be completely fitted for a part in a new play -- which is rewritten to include Mama Girl; Papa Boy agrees to write the music -- and the gamble is on. For the producer has no luck with familiar backers but the confidence and faith of everyone connected with the play is such that, in spite of a cold reception in Philadelphia, they go on, with help from a friend of Mama Girl's (whom Twinkle has helped earlier), to Boston- and come in to New York to wow them. (Including the return of Papa Boy to make all the effort worthwhile.) Well -- the nine year old reportage keeps this artfully innocent, the emotions transparent and the situations fairly arch but there may be more than you think who will have time for Mama Girl and Twinkle...
