Florida Everglades for a rip-snorting adventure of a pampered rich boy, downed in his plane, and making good the hard way. A white hermit and a Seminole teach him the meaning of cooperation and friendly living, in its simplest and most essential terms. Misadventure with some pretty dreadful-looking comic-book bad men, killers, men of sinister brutality -- until Burt outwits the convicts and his hermit friend escapes for help. Burt comes out of the Everglades a man and a hero. Compelling sustained adventure, with a core of meaning despite its tone of high adventure. A bit too much coincidence in the plotting, but a book that might well bridge the gap for problem teen age readers.
