DRAGONS IN AMBER

Sub-titled Further Adventures of a Romantic Naturalist this continues the fascinated, fascinating research undertaken in The Lungfish, the Dodo and the Unicorn, pursues some remote, bizarre phases of natural history and produces some exhaustive evidence. There is the amber country, Samland, and its scientific history through the centuries; the fossilized remains found in red sandstone; the milu, the rare deer found in China by Abbe David, who was also to discover the giant panda; the gingko tree, a living fossil, and our giant redwoods; ""adventive"" (unintentionally imported, as against native) plants and insects, and certain insect invasions; ichthyours; , camels, these make up a book of natural history which puts much new life into old bones.
