An luck would have it, Daisy cow chose Halloween night to dash off into the spooky darkness of Hidden Hollow. Rod and his friend Archie are determined to retrieve her despite the sinister legends about Granny Duncan and her haunted house. An accident at the beginning of their adventure sends them into the path of Malcolm Duncan, a boy their own age, and for the first time directly into Granny's domain. How surprised they are when the ""witch"" turns out to be a kind old lady and when the evening turns into a traditional celebration of Halloween,- Highland style. Fantasies are dissolved and the boys, followed by the errant Daisy cow, return home, happier. Within the framework of a good Halloween adventure, this re-enacts some delightful customs of the holiday, giving the book an instructive as well as an entertaining purpose. Ideal for the orange and black day.
