Through the autobiography of a hobo is told the story of millions of Americans, the drifters, most of them less fortunate in finding a way of life than Woody Guthrie, who is known to his listeners for his vagabond songs over the air. He has told his story in hobo lingo, rough diamond vernacular. He was born on an Oklahoma farm, which later was scene of an oil boom; a tornado destroyed his home, his mother's mind went, his father became a failure, and Woody ran wild with the gang on the streets. Then Texas, where his father ran a flop house; and the open road as Woody bummed the way to California, a victim to the lure of the road. A strange tale.
