A first book-length story by the author of numerous shorter pieces which have appeared in popular magazines, this charts the journey of sixteen-year-old Karen Hale from New York to live with her father and his new family in Oregon. For Karen, it is an emotional journey as well. Her Grandmother with whom she had been living was a jealous, grasping person who had caused a divorce between her parents, and Karen, with a chip on her shoulder about her father's happiness with his new wife, Jan, and a baby, has something to learn before her own happy adjustment. Out west there is Nels too, a boy whom Karen's father does not like because of some serious shenanigans which were not entirely Nels' fault. Each with something to overcome, the two youngsters face their problems squarely and get the right results. A healthily handled stock situation that may be of help where guidance is needed.
