This is a fantasy-mystery which emerges long on the shorter points of each species. Mr. Hinnabel and his daughter Jane made a doubling rod which worked, producing two of anything they wished. When an Etruscan bronze was stolen by an ice-cream man they tracked down the culprit and traced it to its source. With the help of the doubling rod they were able to outfox the thief. The story is set in London. The pace is soporific and the story as a whole lacks conviction.
