Although it features two fascinating elements -- a university campus and a psychiatrist's couch, the mystery demands too much in the way of a suspension of disbelief. Dropping literary allusions as she goes, Prof. Kate Fansler arrives at the solution to the question of who killed her student in the office of her old friend. The does this more by fantasy than by detection. Only in a mystery could this be made to fit the odd facts. Good dialogue fails to save the circumstantial happenstance.
